Prati was not built for tourists. It grew in the late nineteenth century as a district of homes and offices, with broad, orderly streets rarely found elsewhere in Rome. That is why, a short walk from the Vatican, you can still have breakfast standing at the counter among local regulars.
Just outside the door
Via Cola di Rienzo, one of Rome’s main shopping streets, is just around the corner: boutiques, food shops and cafés. Then you return to Via Tacito, a lived-in neighbourhood street rather than a thoroughfare.
You notice the difference in the evening, when the streets around the sights empty while the places here remain full of the people who live nearby.
Rome on foot
Castel Sant’Angelo is an eleven-minute walk, the Vatican just under twenty, and Piazza Navona and the historic centre lie across the river. Lepanto metro station is eight minutes away for everywhere else.
If you are here for work
Piazza Cavour and the Supreme Court are a five-minute walk away. Self check-in through the web app means no waiting on an evening arrival after a hearing or meeting, and the shared area has a table and Wi-Fi so you can work somewhere other than the bed.
